Tazaghart is an eight-day ski mountaineering expedition designed for experienced skiers looking to move beyond conventional ski touring. The route links high passes, steep couloirs and remote mountain terrain across the Tazaghart and Ouanoukrim region of Morocco's High Atlas.

The character of the expedition changes as we gain altitude. Easy approaches give way to steeper snow, narrow couloirs and exposed high-mountain terrain.
The journey moves through a sequence of objectives including Amghras N'Tskin, Tizi N'Tadat, the Ras Ouanoukrim couloir, Bou Imghaz, the Imouzar descent and the Aksoual couloirs. Each objective is approached with the conditions of the mountain in mind.

Marrakech → Imlil
Arrival in Marrakech and transfer towards the High Atlas Mountains. We continue to Imlil, the gateway to the Toubkal and Ouanoukrim massifs, where the team settles in for the night and prepares for the expedition ahead.

Approach
Approach Into The High Atlas
After breakfast, we begin the approach towards the higher mountain terrain. Depending on the snowline, skis are carried or used as soon as conditions allow.
The day is dedicated to gaining altitude and positioning the team for the technical objectives ahead.

The expedition moves into steeper terrain, with Amghras N'Tskin forming one of the important technical objectives of the journey.
The ascent and descent are undertaken according to the quality and stability of the snow.

One of the expedition's major technical objectives is the Ras Ouanoukrim couloir and its descent towards Bou Imghaz.

Depending on conditions, the team selects the most suitable line before beginning the descent and return towards the valley.

Return To Marrakech

The Tazaghart Ski Haute Route is a serious ski-mountaineering expedition. Couloirs and steep descents are only attempted when snowpack, avalanche conditions, weather and visibility are appropriate.

Participants should have solid ski-touring experience and be comfortable moving efficiently in high-mountain terrain, including steep and exposed sections.

The route may include steep couloirs and technical descents. Strong edging, controlled turns and confidence on variable snow are essential.

Expect long mountain days, sustained climbing and significant vertical gain. You should be prepared to ski and move for several hours at altitude.

What ski level is required?

This is an advanced ski-mountaineering expedition. Participants should be confident skiing in variable snow conditions and steep mountain terrain. Previous ski-touring and ski-mountaineering experience is strongly recommended, particularly for couloir ascents and descents.
Do I need previous ski touring experience?

Yes. The route includes skinning, steep snow terrain, technical couloirs and high-altitude descents. Participants should already be comfortable using touring equipment and moving efficiently in mountainous winter terrain.
Is the itinerary fixed?

The eight-day framework is fixed, but the exact route and order of objectives may change. Snowpack, avalanche conditions, weather, visibility and the ability of the group determine which couloirs and descents are appropriate on a given day.
What happens if conditions are not suitable?

Mountain safety always comes first. If a planned couloir or descent is not safe, the guide can modify the route, change the objective or select alternative terrain that better matches the conditions.
Can I bring my own ski equipment?

Yes. You can bring your own touring skis, boots and technical equipment. Before the expedition, we can discuss your equipment list and make sure it is appropriate for the planned terrain and current mountain conditions.
Can this expedition be private?

Yes. Private departures can be arranged for individuals, friends or small groups. A private expedition also gives us more flexibility to adapt the objectives and pace around the experience of the team.
When is the best time to ski the route?

The ski season in the High Atlas is highly dependent on the year's snowfall and weather patterns. We select departure dates with the aim of finding suitable snow coverage and stable conditions for the intended terrain. The final decision always depends on the mountain.
How do I prepare for the expedition?

Good cardiovascular fitness, strong downhill skiing ability and previous experience in mountain environments are important. We recommend arriving prepared for long days at altitude and variable winter conditions. A detailed equipment and preparation discussion can be arranged before departure.
