Best Time to Ride

Follow the seasons.
Ride the south at its best.

The M'Goun, Rose Valley and southern Morocco offer their best mountain biking conditions during the spring and autumn shoulder seasons. The ideal dates depend on whether you want greener mountain landscapes and the Rose Valley or cooler, drier riding deeper into the south.

Spring & Autumn

Two excellent windows for this expedition.

March — May

Spring

Spring brings comfortable riding temperatures and greener valleys. Late April into May is particularly attractive around the Rose Valley, when the region becomes known for its seasonal rose harvest.

Best for

Rose Valley · Green valleys · Mountain scenery

September — NovemberPrime

Autumn

As the summer heat fades, the southern mountain and desert landscapes become more comfortable for long days in the saddle. September and October are particularly appealing for riders looking for dry trails and cooler conditions.

Best for

Long rides · Dry terrain · Saghro & Draa Valley

June — August

Summer

Summer can be very hot in the lower valleys and southern landscapes. This route should therefore be planned carefully around temperatures, riding times and current conditions.

Winter

Possible with route-dependent conditions

Spring advantage

The Rose Valley comes alive.

If seeing the Valley of Roses during its most distinctive period is important to you, aim for late April or May. Spring also gives the valleys a fresher appearance before the intense summer heat arrives.

Autumn advantage

Cooler days for longer rides.

Autumn is an excellent choice for riders focused on the riding itself. Temperatures become more comfortable after summer, making long stages through the mountains, Saghro landscapes and Draa Valley more enjoyable.

The exact route always follows current conditions.

Mountain weather, road access, heat and local conditions can influence the best riding window. When planning your expedition, we will confirm the most suitable dates and route conditions for your group.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need
to know before riding.

Planning an MTB expedition through the M'Goun region, Valley of Roses and southern Atlas? Here are answers to the most common questions about the route, riding conditions, accommodation and logistics.

Who is this MTB expedition suitable for?

+

This expedition is designed for mountain bikers with a good level of fitness and previous experience riding off-road. Several stages involve approximately five to six hours of riding, with climbs, descents, rocky terrain and longer distances. It is better suited to confident riders than complete beginners.

How difficult is the M'Goun & Rose Valley route?

+

The route is an adventurous multi-day MTB expedition rather than a relaxed cycling holiday. Daily distances vary, with some stages reaching around 50–70 km. The route also crosses mountain passes and remote terrain, so riders should be comfortable with sustained climbs, variable surfaces and long days in the saddle.

How many kilometres will we ride each day?

+

The riding distances vary considerably throughout the expedition. The itinerary includes approximately 20 km on the opening riding stage, around 45–50 km on several mountain days, a shorter 36 km stage and a longer stage of approximately 70 km. Exact distances can change according to local trail and weather conditions.

What is the highest mountain pass on the route?

+

The highest point described in the itinerary is Tazazert Pass at approximately 2,270 metres. From the higher mountain terrain, the route gradually descends toward the warmer landscapes of the Draa Valley and its palm-filled oases.

What type of mountain bike should I bring?

+

A reliable mountain bike in good mechanical condition is essential. A modern hardtail or full-suspension MTB suitable for mixed mountain terrain is recommended. Riders should also be prepared for rocky tracks, gravel roads, climbs and extended descents.

Can I rent a mountain bike in Morocco?

+

Bike rental can be arranged depending on availability and your requirements. Because this is a multi-day mountain expedition, we recommend discussing the bike type, frame size and equipment requirements with us well before your arrival.

Where will we sleep during the expedition?

+

Accommodation changes as we move through the different mountain regions. Depending on the stage, you may stay in hotels or guesthouses, experience a local homestay, or camp in more remote areas. The accommodation is chosen to fit the route and the character of each destination.

What is the best time for this Morocco MTB adventure?

+

Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable seasons for this route. Spring brings greener valleys and the famous flowering period around the Valley of Roses, while autumn offers cooler temperatures for riding through the mountains and southern valleys.

Is vehicle support available during the trip?

+

Transfers and logistical vehicle support are used throughout the expedition where required. This allows the route to connect different mountain regions and provides practical support during the longer remote stages and transfers.

Can this MTB expedition be organized as a private trip?

+

Yes. Private departures can be organized around your preferred dates, group size and riding experience. Contact us before booking and we can discuss the route, logistics and any adjustments needed for your group.
