Meet your guide in Imlil and begin the ascent through the spectacular High Atlas trails towards Tazaghart Refuge. The route gradually leaves the inhabited valleys behind and enters a more remote mountain environment. Tazaghart provides an ideal first night and an important opportunity to prepare for the demanding summit days ahead.

Begin the first major summit day of the expedition with the ascent of Bouignoussen, one of the six 4,000m peaks of the Toubkal Massif. The route demands strong endurance and careful movement at altitude. After reaching the summit, descend back towards Tazaghart Refuge for a second night in the mountains.

One of the most demanding stages of the expedition. Ascend towards Afella and Akioud, navigating remote high-altitude terrain and sections requiring confident movement on steep mountain ground. After completing both summits, descend towards the Toubkal Refuge area for the night.

Take on the magnificent Ouanoukrim ridge and its two iconic 4,000m summits. The route offers some of the finest high-altitude scenery in the Toubkal Massif, with sweeping views across the surrounding peaks and valleys. Descend back towards the refuge after completing both summits.

The final summit and the ultimate objective. Begin early for the ascent of Mount Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa. Reach the summit and take in the vast panorama across the High Atlas before beginning the long descent through the Mizane Valley to Imlil, where the Atlas Challenge comes to an end.

Nights are spent in mountain refuges or, during the summer season, in carefully selected campsites. Each location is chosen to support the expedition while keeping you close to the mountains.

During the summer season, camping can be arranged in quiet mountain locations, offering a more peaceful experience surrounded by the dramatic landscapes of the High Atlas.

A quieter mountain refuge used during the first stages of the expedition, providing a practical base for acclimatization and access to the surrounding high peaks.

Stay close to Mount Toubkal and the Ouanoukrim peaks at the heart of the expedition, preparing for some of the highest summit days of the challenge.
Meals are prepared by our experienced mountain cook and are designed to provide the energy needed for demanding days at altitude. Expect hearty Moroccan breakfasts, nutritious trail lunches and traditional dinners after each stage.

The Atlas Challenge is an advanced mountain expedition designed for strong and experienced hikers. The itinerary combines long trekking days, significant elevation gain, rugged terrain and multiple summits above 4,000 metres. Excellent fitness and previous mountain trekking experience are strongly recommended.
The expedition is designed around six major summits of the Toubkal Massif: Mount Toubkal (4,167m), Timzguida n'Ouanoukrim (4,089m), Ras Ouanoukrim (4,083m), Afella (4,043m), Akioud (4,030m) and Bouignoussen (4,002m).
Previous mountain trekking experience is strongly recommended. Participants should be comfortable with long ascents, steep mountain terrain and several consecutive days at altitude. Experience above 3,000 metres is particularly useful for this expedition.
Accommodation is based around mountain refuges and, when conditions and logistics allow, high-altitude camping. Nights at Tazaghart Refuge and the Toubkal Refuge area provide a practical base for the summit days while keeping you close to the high mountains.
Yes. Mules and our support team can transport the main luggage, food and camping equipment during the expedition. You will normally hike with a smaller daypack containing water, personal essentials, extra layers and anything you need during the day.
The preferred season is from May to October, when conditions are generally more suitable for high-altitude trekking and scrambling. Winter ascents are possible but require appropriate mountaineering equipment and depend heavily on snow and weather conditions.
